About Triton Consulting

Triton Consulting had been making waves in the IBM DB2 space since 1996. What started as a specialist DB2 consultancy had grown considerably by 1998 when they became an IBM Premier Business Partner, expanding their offering to include a comprehensive range of DB2 Managed Services. This wasn't just any old consultancy – they'd built their reputation on deep technical expertise and genuine understanding of their clients' needs.

Their client base was predominantly small to medium-sized enterprises running bespoke IBM DB2 database systems. These weren't simple setups either – we're talking about critical business applications from accounts and stock control to complex booking systems spanning every imaginable market sector. The people Triton typically worked with were IT Managers who needed a partner they could trust with their most important systems.

Interestingly, Triton had been doing very little in the way of traditional marketing. Most of their business came through word-of-mouth recommendations, which speaks volumes about the quality of their work. But they'd reached a point where they wanted to be more proactive. They wanted to increase brand awareness and drive new business, particularly in the retail sector, whilst maintaining that reputation for excellence they'd worked so hard to build.

Objectives

Establishing Market Leadership

The first and perhaps most crucial objective was to firmly establish Triton Consulting as the UK's leading independent IBM specialist. This wasn't just about making bold claims on a homepage – it required a thoughtful approach to positioning, messaging and visual identity that would resonate with their target audience. We needed to create a digital presence that exuded expertise and authority whilst remaining approachable and client-focused.

Improving User Experience and Navigation

The existing site had served its purpose, but it was time for something better. We needed to create a navigation structure that would naturally guide visitors deeper into the site, making it 'sticky' in the best possible way. Every page needed to have a clear call to action, whether that was picking up the phone, sending an email or exploring further content. The site had to work intuitively, allowing visitors to find what they needed without any head-scratching moments.

Creating an Information Hub

Beyond just showcasing Triton's services, we wanted to create something genuinely useful – a reliable source of information that IT Managers would actually want to visit. The goal was to build a website that would become a go-to resource, encouraging return visits and establishing Triton as thought leaders in their field. This meant creating comprehensive content that addressed real pain points and provided genuine value.

Driving Business Growth

At the end of the day, this was about generating real business results. We needed to create a website that would drive enquiries for both Managed Services and Consultancy work, with particular emphasis on breaking into the retail sector. Every design decision and content choice was made with this commercial objective in mind.

Approach

  1. Comprehensive Site Architecture

We started by mapping out a logical, comprehensive site structure that would work for both first-time visitors and returning clients. The homepage would provide a strong introduction to Triton and its services, with immediate access to the latest news and updates. From there, we created distinct sections for different aspects of the business – from company information and credentials to detailed service offerings and market sector expertise. Each section was carefully structured to guide visitors naturally through the information they needed.

  2. Flexible Content Management Solution

One of the key requirements was giving Triton the ability to keep dynamic content fresh without needing to call us every time. We developed a bespoke content management interface that would allow them to update case studies, news items and events themselves. The system included image upload capability with automatic resizing and thumbnail creation – making it straightforward for non-technical staff to keep the site current. For pages that changed less frequently, we maintained direct control to ensure design integrity and optimal layout.

  3. Integrated Support Portal

This was one of the most innovative aspects of the project. We proposed integrating Kayako SupportSuite – a third-party support system that we'd used successfully before – to create a central portal for client support. This wasn't just about handling support tickets; it was about creating a resource hub where clients could access white papers, find instant answers through a knowledge base and raise detailed queries when needed. The system would be fully rebranded to match Triton's identity and seamlessly integrated into the site, giving Triton an incredibly powerful tool for client relationship management.

  4. Strategic Search Engine Optimisation

We knew that being found online was crucial for Triton's growth plans. Our approach to SEO started with a comprehensive audit of the existing site, looking at keyword opportunities, content structure and competitor positioning. We then optimised each key service page to work as a landing page for relevant searches, using sensible URLs and ensuring each page provided both an introduction to Triton and detailed service information. The entire site was built with clean, logical code that search engine spiders would love.

  5. Accessibility and Web Standards

We were committed to making the site accessible to all users, regardless of ability or disability. The site was built to conform to WCAG 1.0 Priority One checkpoints (Level 'A'), with elements from higher levels included where possible. This wasn't just about ticking boxes – accessible sites are also more readable by search engines and provide a better experience for everyone. We also implemented specialised print stylesheets, so pages would print beautifully without needing separate 'printer-friendly' versions.

Challenges

Balancing Client Control with Design Excellence

There's always a tension between giving clients the freedom to update content themselves and maintaining design quality. We solved this by being selective about what went into the content management system. Dynamic content that changed frequently – like news, events and case studies – went into the bespoke CMS with carefully designed templates. Pages that were more static remained under our direct control, allowing us to craft better layouts without template restrictions and keeping initial build costs sensible. It was about finding the sweet spot between flexibility and quality.

Results

A Comprehensive Digital Presence

We delivered a complete website that properly showcased Triton's expertise and credentials. The site included approximately 30 pages and templates, each carefully designed to serve a specific purpose. The clean, professional design struck exactly the right balance – business-like without being stuffy, technical without being intimidating. Navigation was intuitive, and the information architecture made it easy for visitors to find what they needed and discover more.

Client Empowerment Through Technology

The bespoke content management interface gave Triton real control over their dynamic content. They could update case studies, add news items and manage events without needing technical expertise. The system handled image processing automatically, making it straightforward to keep the site looking fresh and current. We provided training where needed, ensuring the team felt confident using the system.

Powerful Support Infrastructure

The integrated Kayako SupportSuite transformed how Triton could interact with clients. The system provided ticketed support through both web and email, live chat capability and a comprehensive knowledge base. It was fully rebranded to match Triton's identity, creating a seamless experience. This gave IT Managers a central place to find answers, download resources and get the help they needed – strengthening client relationships and positioning Triton as a genuine partner rather than just a service provider.

Strong SEO Foundation

The site was built from the ground up with search engine optimisation in mind. We delivered a comprehensive SEO audit and implementation, ensuring the site was primed to perform well in search results. Key service pages were optimised as landing pages with sensible URLs, and the entire site structure was logical and crawlable. Combined with the ability to regularly add fresh content through the CMS, Triton had everything they needed to build their organic search presence over time.

The Triton Consulting website project was a perfect example of how thoughtful planning, clear communication and the right technology choices can deliver real business value. We didn't just build a website – we created a comprehensive digital platform that positioned Triton as industry leaders, provided genuine value to their audience and gave them the tools to maintain and grow their online presence independently.

What made this project particularly satisfying was the collaborative approach. By working closely with Laura and the team, really understanding their business and being honest about what we could deliver, we created something that exceeded expectations. The combination of beautiful design, intuitive navigation, powerful backend systems and solid technical foundations gave Triton exactly what they needed to take their digital presence to the next level.
