About Concept Garage Equipment

Concept Garage Equipment aren't just another supplier – they're the go-to name for garage equipment and MOT bays across the UK. From independent garages to some of the country's largest aftermarket suppliers, they've built their reputation on reliability, affordability, and frankly brilliant customer service. They work with every major supplier in the business, which means they can offer an unrivalled range of kit whilst keeping prices competitive.

What really sets them apart is how they work with their customers. Whether you're after a single tyre machine or a complete MOT bay setup with full planning and construction services, they're with you every step of the way. Each project gets a dedicated project manager who guides you from initial chat right through to installation and beyond. It's this personal touch that's made them trusted partners to garages nationwide.

Being independently owned means they're not tied to any particular brands or suppliers – they can genuinely recommend what's best for each customer. And they back it all up with a two-year parts and labour warranty on their own branded equipment.

Objectives

Making Things Faster

Speed was priority number one. The existing site was built on a page builder theme that had accumulated years of bloat. WordPress admin updates were painfully slow, and the front-end wasn't much better. In an industry where customers are often browsing on tablets or phones from their workshop floor, a slow-loading site just wasn't cutting it. We needed to strip away all that unnecessary code and give them a lean, mean website that loaded in seconds, not minutes.

Climbing the Google Rankings

Concept GE had already put serious work into their SEO with Wiser IT, and the last thing we wanted to do was undo any of that hard graft. The challenge was to improve their search engine optimisation even further whilst maintaining all the rankings and authority they'd built up. This meant being incredibly careful with data migration and making sure every URL, every bit of metadata, and every carefully crafted piece of content made the journey intact.

Creating a User Experience That Actually Works

At the end of the day, an ecommerce website needs to help people buy things. The existing site's navigation was confusing, and the user journey wasn't as intuitive as it could be. We wanted visitors to find what they needed quickly and easily, whether that's browsing MOT equipment, reading technical specs, or getting in touch for a quote. The goal was to create an experience so smooth that it practically guided customers through to conversion.

Approach

  1. Out with the Old, In with the Bespoke

The first big decision was ditching the page builder theme entirely. These themes are great when you're starting out, but over time they become bloated with features you'll never use, shortcodes that slow everything down, and compatibility issues galore. We built a completely bespoke WordPress block theme from scratch – clean, modern, and tailored specifically to Concept GE's needs. No unnecessary features, no redundant code, just exactly what they needed and nothing more.

  2. The Great Data Migration

This was probably the trickiest bit of the whole project. Concept GE's existing site had extensive content – product pages, technical specifications, blog posts, you name it. All of this content was crucial for their SEO performance, so we couldn't afford to lose a single page or break any links. We meticulously migrated everything to the new database, checking and double-checking that URLs redirected properly, that metadata was preserved, and that all the SEO work Wiser IT had done remained intact. It was painstaking work, but absolutely essential.

  3. Collaboration is Key

We didn't do this in isolation. From day one, we worked closely with both the Concept GE team and their SEO experts at Wiser IT. We held regular meetings to understand how the site was actually being used, what features customers relied on, and what pain points needed addressing. This collaborative approach meant we weren't just building what we thought they needed – we were building exactly what their business and their customers required.

  4. Testing, Testing, and More Testing

Before we even thought about going live, we put the new site through its paces. We tested every function, every form, every product page. We checked data integrity across the entire site to make sure nothing had been lost or corrupted in the migration. We tested on different devices, different browsers, different connection speeds. User testing was extensive because we knew that launching too early could undo all the good work. Better to take the time to get it right than to rush and regret it.

Our old ecommerce site on WordPress was functional, but honestly, it had become painfully slow and clunky behind the scenes. Accent didn't just give it a fresh coat of paint; they tackled the core architecture. They delivered a site that is lightning-fast, brilliant for our customers (in terms of user experience), and crucially, finally gives us the back-end functionality we desperately needed to future-proof a growing business. Working with Accent has proven to be an absolute game-changer.

Challenges

Keeping Everything Intact

The biggest challenge was maintaining the integrity of years' worth of content and SEO work. This wasn't a simple lift-and-shift job – the old page builder had stored content in its own proprietary format, which meant we had to carefully extract and restructure everything. URLs, metadata, image alt tags, internal links – every single element had to be preserved and verified. One broken redirect or lost page could have cost them valuable search rankings they'd spent years building.

Clearing Out the Clutter

Years of page builder use had left behind a mountain of redundant code. Custom CSS that wasn't being used, JavaScript files that were no longer needed, database tables full of obsolete settings – it all had to go. But you can't just delete everything and hope for the best. We had to methodically identify what was essential and what was dead weight, removing plugins one by one and testing thoroughly to make sure nothing broke. It was like performing surgery – precise, careful, and absolutely necessary.

Designing for the Workshop Floor

Concept GE's customers aren't browsing from swanky offices – they're out on the garage floor, often checking specs on a phone or tablet with greasy hands. The new design needed to work brilliantly on smaller screens, with big touch-friendly buttons and easily scannable information. We also had to work within Concept GE's established brand guidelines whilst making the site feel fresh and modern. It's a fine balance between respecting what's already working and pushing things forward.

The SEO Tightrope

This was the real nail-biter. How do you improve a site's SEO without risking everything that's already been achieved? We worked incredibly closely with Wiser IT throughout the process, making sure every technical SEO improvement we made – from page speed optimisation to schema markup – enhanced rather than disrupted their existing strategy. We monitored rankings like hawks during and after the migration, ready to jump on any issues immediately.

Results

Lightning Fast Performance

The difference in speed is honestly night and day. The WordPress admin that used to take ages to load now zips along, making content updates quick and painless for the Concept GE team. The front-end is equally impressive – pages load in a fraction of the time they used to, even on slower mobile connections. This isn't just about making people happy (though it definitely does that) – faster page speeds directly impact search rankings and conversion rates.

WooCommerce That Actually Works

We successfully converted their existing WooCommerce setup to work seamlessly with the new theme. The checkout process is smoother, product pages load faster, and managing inventory in the backend is infinitely easier. The team at Concept GE can now focus on selling garage equipment rather than wrestling with their website admin, which is exactly how it should be.

SEO Success

Not only did we preserve all the SEO work that had been done previously, we actually improved on it. The cleaner code, faster loading times, and improved mobile experience have all contributed to better search performance. Google loves fast, well-structured sites, and that's exactly what we delivered. The technical SEO improvements mean Concept GE is now in an even stronger position to compete for those valuable search rankings.

Users Actually Enjoy Using It

The feedback on user experience has been brilliant. Navigation is intuitive, finding products is straightforward, and the conversion process is smooth. Whether someone's browsing on a desktop in their office or checking specs on a phone in the garage, the experience is consistently good. And that's reflected in the numbers – better engagement metrics, longer session times, and improved conversion rates all point to a website that's genuinely working for its users.
