About Kombat UK

Kombat UK started as a humble venture in the early 1990s when its founder, Roger, began selling army surplus gear from a local market stall. Over the years, his passion for military and outdoor equipment, combined with a sharp business sense, helped grow the company into a leading supplier of military and tactical gear. By the early 2000s, Kombat UK had expanded to include a brick-and-mortar shop, a dedicated warehouse, and a growing product range sourced from exclusive global partnerships. Their commitment to quality, affordability, and customer service cemented their reputation as a trusted name in the industry.

As the business evolved, so did its operational needs. By the late 2000s, Kombat UK recognised the growing importance of an online presence, launching its first retail and trade website in 2009. This platform allowed them to serve a broader customer base, including international buyers and specialised B2B clients. However, as technology advanced and their operations scaled up, their existing ecommerce setup began to show its limitations. They needed a more sophisticated solution to handle increasing demand, streamline trade account management, and integrate with their internal systems.

Objectives

Catering to Both Retail and Trade Customers

The new ecommerce website needed to cater to both retail and trade customers, ensuring a seamless shopping experience for all users.

Easy Management and Updates

One of the key objectives was to create a website that was easy to manage and update. By using WordPress and WooCommerce, Kombat UK's team could maintain their site without relying on external developers for every small change.

B2B Functionality

B2B functionality was a major requirement. The site needed a dedicated section where trade customers could log in, view wholesale pricing, and place bulk orders with ease.

Multi-Currency Support

Multi-currency support was another priority. Since Kombat UK serves international customers, the website needed to display prices and process transactions in multiple currencies.

Sage Accounting Integration

Integration with Sage accounting software was crucial for streamlining operations. Orders, invoices, and financial records had to sync seamlessly between the website and Kombat UK's back-office systems.

Custom WooCommerce Plugins for Order Fulfillment

To improve order fulfilment, we developed custom WooCommerce plugins that tailored the checkout and inventory processes to Kombat UK's unique business model.

Smooth Data Migration

Data migration from its legacy system was essential to maintain business continuity. We ensured all customer accounts and product data were transferred smoothly to the new platform.

Security and Performance

Security and performance were also top priorities. The new website needed to be fast, responsive, and secure, providing a reliable shopping experience for all users.

Approach

We knew this project needed to be more than just a website build—it had to be a solution that worked for Kombat UK's unique needs.

1

Teamwork from Day One

We worked closely with the Kombat UK team and design agency PinkTeal to make sure the website aligned with their brand and business goals.

2

Understanding the Users

We gathered insights on what both trade and retail customers needed, making sure the site was intuitive and efficient.

3

Choosing the Right Tech

WordPress and WooCommerce provided the flexibility and functionality needed to scale.

4

Seamless Integrations

We connected the site to Sage for accounting and implemented custom plugins for streamlined order fulfilment using WooSage.

5

Data Migration Done Right

Moving data from a legacy system without disrupting business was a challenge, but careful auditing and testing ensured a smooth transition.

6

Extensive Testing

Before launching, we ran extensive testing to make sure everything worked perfectly, from product searches to checkout.

We needed a new website for both our B2B and B2C operations. Despite the challenging brief, Accent delivered everything we requested. The team's technical expertise made the process smooth, and they handled everything professionally from start to post-launch. We look forward to continuing our partnership as we develop the site further.

Results

Bespoke WooCommerce Block-Based Theme

We developed a custom WooCommerce block-based theme, ensuring that Kombat UK's online store was tailored to their unique needs. This setup not only provides a seamless shopping experience but also allows for easy updates and scalability as the business grows.

B2B Trade Ordering Section

To cater to both domestic and international trade accounts, we built a dedicated B2B ordering system. This enables wholesalers and retailers to access tailored pricing, bulk order capabilities, and an intuitive account management interface.

Accounting Integration with Sage

We integrated the website with Kombat UK's Sage back-office system, allowing real-time synchronisation of sales, inventory, and financial data. This automation significantly reduces manual data entry and streamlines business operations.

Minimal Downtime

Keeping the business running smoothly while implementing a major overhaul required careful planning. We scheduled the migration during off-peak hours, ran extensive pre-launch tests, and had a rollback plan in place. This approach minimised disruption for Kombat UK's customers and staff, allowing for a seamless transition.

Enhanced User Experience

From intuitive navigation to a mobile-friendly design, we focused on delivering a frictionless shopping experience. The new website makes it easier for customers to find products, place orders, and manage their accounts effortlessly.

Strengthened Brand Perception

Working closely with PinkTeal who designed the brand and the website, we developed a visually cohesive and modern website that aligns with Kombat UK's strong brand identity. The refreshed design reinforces trust and credibility, making the online experience just as robust as their reputation in the industry.

Built for Growth

Most importantly, the site is built for future growth. With Kombat UK's continued expansion (including a brand-new warehouse in 2025!), their ecommerce platform is ready to scale right alongside them.

This was more than just a website build—it was about creating a digital foundation for Kombat UK's next decade of success. Working with their team and PinkTeal was a fantastic experience, and we're proud to have played a part in their journey.
